OBU-Onslow vs Wainui

OBU-Onslow got their Paul Potiki Shield campaign off to a great start with a 22-0 win over Wainui at Prince of Wales Park.

OBU-Onslow dominated early on and after a few missed shots at goal, they opened their account with a try to Andrew Carnegie. The ball was spread from wing to wing in the build up to stretch Wainui, they could do nothing on the final phase as the weight of position and pressure finally tolled.

Unfortunately OBU-Onslow couldn’t score another try in the half and went into half time only 7 nil up which was slightly disappointing considering the position and territory.

The scrum dominated in the second half, the pack seemingly push the Wainui with ease. This was a great platform to attack from and Devos strolled across for the second try without a hand laid on him.

The majority of the final quarter of the match was played in Wainui’s 22/2 and the frustration was starting to show. The forwards had a good drive and they were rewarded with a try to Ben Pomare on the stroke of full time.

Man of the match: Dan McCormack had a fine game at prop. He helped lay a solid platform for the scrums where the forwards dominated! He was also in the loose with some fine runs..

Dick of the Day: There are a couple of options to pick from this week (many from a kick attempts).. Ben Neilson took a massive fly hack at the ball and got only air. Jerome also wanted to show his wide range of skills by kicking for territory and got his kick charge down. But this week has to go to Arthur Flux, not only did his kick slice off the side of his boot, to be re-gathered by another OBU-Onslow player but he also pulled off what can only be described as a ballet style pirouette to evade a tackle.
