OBU-Onslow couldn’t consolidate an early half time lead went down to Petone 14-9 at Petone Rec.
Playing with the wind OBU-Onslow dominated position and territory in the first half. Unfortunately they only had 3 penaltiesto show for it. Ben Neilson came agonisingly close to dotting down after Toni fielded a kick and found space in the middle of the park, he threw a long pass and with quick hands in the Ben found space down the left wing, Unfortunately he was brought down by the cover defence of Petone.
In the second half basic skills started to erode from the OBU-Onslow team and Petone got there heads up. OBU-Onslow started to give away stupid penalties and Petone accept shots at goal with glee.
Petone then went over with a driving maul to take the lead for the first time. Once OBU-Onslow were down they started to panic and play as individuals, the frustration was plain to see on the players faces that we let this one slip through our fingers.
Player of the Match: ? Cant remember
Dick of the Day: Toni Manase gets the honour this week wild haymaker and subsequent binning. Toni took exception to some foul play by Petone and Toni let fly with a Manase special. Luckily for the Petone player he missed and spent the second week in a row under the posts for 10mins.
Casualty: Jerome took a nasty cut above the eye after a dirty Petone player rucked his face. This was a big loss as Jerome was had a fine first half and missed the second half with a visit to hospital.
