OBU-Onslow vs Dogs of War

OBU-Onslow put on a much improved display against top of the table dogs of war only for their second half blues to continue, they went down 27-07 at Kilburnie Park.

After last weeks disappointing start OBU-Onslow were keen to start the game on the right foot, and they did with 15 minutes of flawless rugby. The ball security, intensity and skill was huge as the team dominated the early encounter. After what seemed like a dozen of phases of forwards and back interplaying well Mark Berney scored the first try of the match as the forwards blew over at close range. This shocked The Dogs into the game as the pending kick off was the first time they had got there hands on the ball after about 15 minutes.

The rest of the have was a tight affair with the Dogs of war pegging back the margin with a penalty. OBU-Onslow were unlucky to into the half-time behind on the scored board as the dogs of war full back grubbered past Josh on the left wing and re-gathered for their first try of the game. Going into the break 10-7 down OBU-Onslow were at that stage were still well in the game.

But again it was OBU-Onslow’s inability to consistently play at a high level that hurt them. The Dogs of War deployed a well executed kicking game to get in behind OBU-Onslow’s defence and it worked like clockwork.

The Poneke Dogs of War second half fitness and composure stretched the score line to 28 points to 7 at full time.

Man of the match: Peter Bakker had a fine game at half-back playing in a pivotal position for the first time.
