OBU-Onslow vs MSP Reds

With two first up gusty wins under the belt in the second round, it was important to keep the momentum going. This game marked several significant feats. Firstly it was the another home game and we have not lost any home games so far this year. (Ian Galloway, Petone Rec or Martin Lucky Park are not OBU-Onslow home grounds!) Secondly we had not won more then two games in a row and thirdly we have not this season had the same starting line up take the field all season.

After about 10mins of play, OBU were penalised on their line for diving in off their feet. MSP took the lead 3-nil.

After this someone seemed to have switched a button and OBU become dominant with the ball in hand playing a good 8mins in MSPs half and holding onto the ball for most of that time. It came to an end with MSP center taking Shane out with a head high, which Willie took exception too. It gave OBU the penalty but was not converted.

This lead to another dominant passage of play. From a line out Berny took the ball down setting up a maul, giving Whanga the opportunity to dot down.

Pete was nearly made it over the line in the last ten minutes of play in the first half but was unlucky that the referee was not in the best position to see the ball touched down. Despite OBU dominating most of the game, MSP held theirs by defending well and keeping the bunnies scoreless for the rest of the game.

This was the closest that the red and greens have come to producing a full 80 minute game. Everyone played well, and the subs made a big impact, but did not break up the flow for the rest of the team.

Player of the Day:
It was a close call between two players, Whanga and Barber. But Barber was awarded player of the game. He was dominant in attack and solid in defence. Every time he got the ball he broke the line, and his distribution was outstanding.

Dick of the Day:
Arthur first for dropping the ball clean with no one in front of him and, second for yet again thinking he has a kicking game!
