OBU-Onslow vs J'ville

On a cold/windy but dry afternoon OBU-Onslow managed to secure close 10-8 win over Johnsonville at Ian Galloway Park. The build up was dominated by lack of players and weigh in obligations which meant preparation was not ideal.

Due to the lacklustre build up OBU-Onslow were a left a little flat in the initial contests. The deadlock was broken first by OBU-Onslow who had repeated attacks on J’ville’s try line repeled, they were soon to be rewarded with 3 Points when Shane converted a regulation shot at goal. J’ville evened the score up shortly after, and pulled further way with a cheeky cross kick from within their half, re-gathered and managed to strip the last line of defence to run 50 metres to score a good try. OBU-Onslow muscled up and Jerome scored determined try and with Shane’s conversion the OBU-Onslow went into the half with a two point advantage.

It was unsure whether OBU-Onslow had done enough as J’ville had what was thought to be a 10-15 point wind advantage in the second half. The Johnsonville team were intent to run at the opposition and didn’t deploy a sensible kicking game to apply pressure. OBU-Onslow defence held and the team didn’t concede any silly penalty’s in a kickable position. Both teams had a player in the sin-binned, but J’ville couldn’t make any inroads into the OBU-Onslows defence with the extra space

Big ups to Paul, Churhman Junior replied to the team SOS and turned up to play when we were struggling for numbers. This was the first time Paul and Jerome had played in the same rugby team and Paul didn’t disappoint and had a fine game.

Moment of the match: About 25 minutes into the second half OBU-Onslow started a rolling maul from within their 40m mark and drove 30m down to J’ville’s twenty two.

Man of the match: Ben Neilson, Ben’s ability to adapt to playing at inside centre in a make shift backline is worthy of player for the day alone, but it was his defence especially the try saving tackle in the second half which turned it. The tackle personified OBU-Onslow’s defence.

Dick of the Day: This goes to Andy Carnegie, for wearing white shoes to the game. Apparently Shane Binnie has taken upon himself to become the fashion guru since appearing in an issue of M2 magazine. The team look forward to future fashion tips from Shane.

Filthy Player of the Day: Arthur gets this illustrious accolade in his first game back for OBU-Onslow. Arthur was unlucky to be sent off in the first place after a gentle shove from Ardie was replied with a tap on the chin from the J'ville player.
