OBU-Onslow vs MSP Blue

OBU-Onslow just missed out on a bonus in a game that they never really got out of second gear. The game went to MSP Blue 16 points to 8 at Martin (not so) Luckie.

The match almost didn’t go ahead as the ref didn’t turn up. It wasn’t until the ref of the adjacent senior 2 game called the union and it was confirm he would officiate.

The first half OBU-Onslow had the wind behind them, however due to poor tactical kicking they couldn’t take advantage of it and played the majority of the half in the middle of the pitch.
The backs couldn’t get any penetration a reverted to simple crash and kicking into the wind without too much return.

MSP hit the lead with a well constructed try after a lengthy build up and exposed the blind side which OBU-Onslow had left un-manned. They went further out ahead after a dubious try was awarded when MSP kicked through, the ref was no were near the grounding and from many accounts MSP had not grounded the ball sufficiently.

It wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of the game when OBU-Onslow woke from their slumber and started to play some attractive rugby. The forwards and backs combined well to march up the field and score a great push over try to Ben Whaanga. Unfortunately it was a too little to late and the missed conversion meant there was no bonus point.

Player of the Day: Mike Palmer had an outstanding game, securing at least 5 turn over’s and putting his body on the line at ruck and maul time.

Dick of the day: This one has to go to Whaanga, even though he scored a good team try he went on wearing his cleats and then had to fain an injury to enable him to change into Lavy’s huge monkey boots during the game.

Casualty's: N/A

Scorers:
Tries: Ben Whaanga
Penalty: Shane Binnie
